trompette de la mort

**Update: still not finished, but really is anything EVER really finished? Oh, well. Looks at least more like a real painting now. [26 Dec 2011]

Still a very early work in progress, put this idea to canvas in about an hour. Although not at all the vision in my head, I'm liking where this ended up going. The crow is a longtime obsession which I'm looking forward to painting out in full. The idea of a stiff Victorian trained rabbit (but at all the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland) has been rolling around in my head for some time.
The sketch below is done in chalk and charcoal.

Oh, the possibilities

Not sure where this idea is going, but getting into the greys and sepias. It's all about the texture and the layers. More to come...

In the studio...

Finally got the new lighting and flooring set up. Working on a new series and doing all the base coats first. Been mixing colors and will get down to business this weekend.

Only problem with Canada is that nothing dries... so hooked up a fan and am waiting patiently.

Calder Crosses

Early edits of summer road trip pictures. These are from a pristine Ukrainian cemetery dating to pre-WWI in a farming town in the prairies of Saskatchewan - now nearly abandoned. To everything, turn turn turn.

a landscape

the assignment: a landscape
the result: a robot

...but somewhere beyond the mustard gas cloud, a landscape exists.
i swear...

passed him on to nico to take care of, so we'll consider him finished.
